Bio

I grew up in the city of Enschede in The Netherlands and have been busy drawing and painting from an early age. At the age of ten, I accidentally ended up in Carel Willink's studio in Amsterdam and this made a big impression on me. At first, I had no idea who he was until his work was discussed during an art appreciation class at school. It was therefore logical for me that I would follow a course in art subjects after secondary education.

I was admitted to the Academy for Art and Industry (AKI) in Enschede but ultimately opted for the teacher training course in drawing and crafts in Groningen. After completing the course, I worked for almost thirty-eight years as a drawing, crafts and technology teacher and later as a developer in secondary education, after a few short detours. Over time, the art subjects gradually faded into the background and my path turned towards technology. Due to developments in education, I ended up in Enschede again with my wife and our two daughters. After ending my teaching career, I picked up visual work again at the end of 2021. In my relatively small studio I am regularly working on various visual arts, with painting currently taking center stage. Human figures or parts thereof are usually central to my choice of subject.
